Kieran Halpin | 1955-2020

Last night I heard the news that Irish Folk Singer Kieran Halpin had died. Vin and Kieran were good friends. I’m sure that they each saw the world from a very different perspective but Kieran was open minded, non judgemental and interested in what Vin had to say. They went on the road together for a couple of weeks and Vin loved every minute of it. Vin recorded Kieran's song 'Nothing To Show For It All' on his 1995 album Plugged!.

Vin nicknamed Kieran “Kiero the Hero” and that stuck in our house. Of course it was because I was a massive fan. He was a wordsmith like Vin. I have lost count of how many of Kieran’s concerts I have attended over the years but he never failed to give his all. The fabulous voice, the driving guitar and those beautiful lyrics, interspersed with his incisive wit. It was such a privilege to be there.

Kieran stayed at our home on many occasions, talking late into the night, teaching our kids how to drink without restraint and telling us tales. He was an absolute gentleman, modest, funny, supremely gifted and giving.

Our family send our sincere condolences to Kieran’s family and friends.

His music will live on. RIP Kieran.
